What Does This Mean?

In the veterinary world we use abbreviations for certain types of vaccines. Here are their definitions:

Cat Vaccines:

FVRCP -

Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis - watery or thick discharge from the nose and eyes, fever, loss of appetite, lethargy.

Calici virus - A common viral respiratory disease similar to the signs above.

Panleukopenia - can affect many parts of unprotected cat's body causing fever, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, weakness, tremors and loss of coordination. Death can occur in little as one week.

FELV leukemia -

Similar to AIDS virus, it suppresses the cat's immune system leaving it unable to fight off other infections. Your veterinarian can do a simple blood test to determine if your cat is infected with FELV. Cannot be treated, fatal within 2 to 3 years.

Rabies -

Deadly yet preventable viral disease most often transmitted through the bite of a rabid animal.

Dog Vaccines:

*We carry Distemper combos with or without Lepto, ask your veterinarian if your dog is at risk!*

DHPP -

Distemper affects many body systems and is usually fatal

Adenovirus type 2 affects liver and causes liver failure

Parainfluenza is a respiratory infection

Parvovirus causes diarrhea, vomiting, depression, and if severe enough, death
